Understanding A Child Personality… Part 2

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014

Personality is very much a part of us and what we are made of though some life events can affect and change personality , it remains a vital factor in predicting future behaviour.

No 3 The Defiant Child

These Children enjoy defying rules and authority including parents and teachers. They are independent thinkers and have a mind of their own.  They can also be supremely perfect in every activity that they take on and are likely to give their best. These kids have a knack for organising their visual memory and like to be very much in control of their environment and their world. Perhaps this is the contributing factors to the stubborn streak but can be talented.

Most Inspired parents suggested that one should be firm and consistent in their discipline methods. Negative emotions will only caused more defiant in a child. Win over his trust by understanding his needs, calm behaviour toward any discussion can preserve his sense of self-esteem and bring out the best in him.

Understanding A Child Personality… Part 1

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

Understanding personality traits of children will help us understand them better and provide them with the right environment for them to learn an bloom.

No 1 The Self Absorbed Child

The Child may appear to be disinterested and easily tired with everything around him. The self-absorbed child will usually not be curious to explore his surroundings and may thrive in regular routine. This passive child although seeming quiet has a vivid imagination which can blossom as he grows older.

An inspired tutor we spoke to, give her view that tutors should never give up on this child. He may reach out to you in very subtle ways. Tutors should respond to that soft cue with zeal and support. If tutors show him disinterest then over time he will simply shut out and stay in his own world.

No 2 The Enthusiastic Child

They are talkative display high levels of intelligence and are enthusiastic about life. They like to take charge and be involved in seeking knowledge. They can be the boredom busters in social settings but sometimes they can also be annoying and may be mistaken to be attention seekering. They are interested in a wide spectrum of activities and thrive on intellectual conversations.

Tips from our inspired tutor: See this as an opportunity to celebrate his personality, provide ample opportunities to pursue creatives task. Do not shut him up instead teach empathy and show him how to be sensitive to the feelings of others and his surroundings.

iQ VS eQ student

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

IQ (Intelligence Quotient) defines how smart you are, EQ (Emotional Quotient) defines how well you use what smarts you have.

IQ gets you through school, EQ gets you through life.

Truth is you aren’t going to get very far with building your career success and relationships around you, if you are grumbling and complaining all the time. People like to be with people that make them feel good and, no one enjoys being with a whiner. Research shows that it is a person’s communication skills that get them to the top and keeps them there. Your EQ has more to do with your success and happiness in life than your IQ. The good news is Emotional Intelligence can be learned!  a FAMOUS quote ” IQ gets you hired, EQ gets you promoted.”

Note: Appealing to emotions to convince someone rather than using facts alone. Secondly using your emotions in addition to your cognitive how and why vs Knowing what. The thing is knowing how to motivate separate individuals as opposed to treating everyone the same way. Lastly understanding and controlling your emotions to use them for something vs letting your emotion control you because you do not know how to deal with them.

Can having tuition really help me to do well in my study?

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

Students who does relatively well in class but does not mind having extra lessons in English, Mathematics, Science and Chinese tuition. Why is this so? Some of the students we spoke to want tuition despite doing well in class. A student from a top school has this advice ”If you dont have tuition you have to really make sure you recap what you have learnt on your own but if you have tuition you don’t have a choice but to recap. There are alot of distraction at home, there are our mobile phones, computer, TV programs; without tuition I wouldn’t really revise what I have learnt”. Some students also believe strongly in a balance lifestyle & having 1-1 tuition at home for 3 or more subjects which give them the flexibility to shift lessons around to accommodate for other activities such as having games (football etc) and their CCAs.

Can having tuition really help? the fact remains that teachers in school just cannot teach everything in class. A tutor can give a student 100% attention; if you don’t understand anything there is an instant answer. Some parents do acknowledge that teachers don’t have time in class on drilling individual student on their fundamentals.

Inspired Math Tutor Helps Solving Maths Problem with Ease

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

At Inspired Tuition we have a gather some feedback from our Inspired Tutors on how to solve Primary Maths exam problems with ease.

1) Read Every Question TWICE : it is important that the student read every problem sums twice to make sure she/he understands very clearly what is required. UNDERLINE the KEY PHRASES as they serve as a guideline to answer the question correctly and most importantly answering accurately to what is being asked. At Inspired, our Inspired tutors can help the child to pick up the RIGHT clues and answer to the point.

2) Draw a Model or a Structure: Your child must be properly trained to have a tool such as a table, a bar model, branching method to help her solve a question. A model is to help her to visualise a complete picture of the situation and get a good idea of what is required and work towards the solution in a systematic fashion.

3) Answer in an intelligence way: The proper way to solve a problem sum is by using a model (no short cut method!). It can be rather confusing for examiners if answer involve abstract workings without a structure or a model. Secondly please present your working method neatly!

There are some other discussion with our Inspired tutors on how to choose the RIGHT TECHNIQUE Testing of answer, tracking of time etc.. on our next write up. Please follow us on our facebook!
